Adult workshop 'Sunday/Monday series' 2020

Fun in the Workshop

No prior knowledge or experience is required, just a willingness to get to grips with the exciting world of hand tools and machinery. Come alone or with a friend and get a new view of your own ability.

Make your choice from either the Sunday or Monday workshop. Or choose both if you wish  to take on a more complex project and need the extra time.

Age range

This series is intended for Adults only
The last two workshops in April (12/13th) are the only opportunity for you to bring a child along free of charge.

Workshops are held at 206 Cames Road, Mangawhai 0975

Time

Workshops run between 10.00am - 2.00pm each day

Price includes

Guidance and support from a qualified and experienced teacher, all materials and access to a full suite of tools, machinery and equipment.

What you need to bring

Your ideas, enthusiasm and a packed lunch (which should include morning tea).
Clothing appropriate for the workshop.

Safety

Safety boots are not expected but covered shoes are required no jandals. Upon booking you will be sent a brief outline of how we will deal with other safety issues. Places are limited to ensure quality contact time and safety. To book your place please take the link below and pay online.

16th or 17th February - An Introduction to Carving

Carving is an expression of our cultural identity. Learn how to master some of the basic techniques, tools and equipment of this art-form.
Come and develop another means to express yourself and how to translate drawings into a tangible form.

This workshop is designed for the novice and is not a master class in carving. It is an opportunity for you to appreciate another means of self-expression safely.

You will be introduced to the techniques of low relief and sunk relief and will use both modern and traditional tools and techniques to shape material. Reference will be made to appropriate materials that can be used along with suitable finishing techniques.

The intention is that you will complete a simple piece of artwork within the set time period.

 

  

23rd or 24th February - Confidence with Tools Pt1

 making it easy

If you have ever questioned your confidence in the use of tools or equipment, then this workshop is for you. This is your opportunity to get to safely use a limited range of tools and equipment to bolster your woodworking skills.

This is a practical hands-on course designed to eliminate fear whilst having fun and is run in two parts (choose one or both)

No prior knowledge or experience is required, just a willingness to get to grips with the exciting world of the workshop.

In Pt 1: instruction will be offered in the safe use of the following tools and equipment; jigsaw, impact driver and torque screwdriver, belt and orbital sander, scroll saw, different hand saws, drill and various drill bits, chisels, files and rasps. Use of different woodworking glues will also be covered.

 

  

1st or 2nd March - Confidence with Tools Pt 2

 making it easy

If you have ever questioned your confidence in the use of tools or equipment, then this workshop is for you. This is your opportunity to get to safely use a limited range of tools and equipment to bolster your woodworking skills.

This workshop is designed to follow on from Pt 1 but can be completed separately.

In Pt 2: instruction will extended to include the use of the drop saw, curcular saw, band saw and router.

 

  

8th or 9th March - Make your own birdbox

Make your own Birdbox, the only rule is....that it cannot be a simple box. Think fun …borderline silly.

Indulge your creativity and build something that is a unique expression of yourself.

 

  

15th or 16th March - Make your own postbox

 bird box ideas 

Does your letterbox make you smile? Is it one that people slow down to view? Have you put up with functional and boring for too long? Then let’s do something about it.

Think crazy, quirky, colourful and make a statement in the street.

Contact me in advance for guidance on how to get the best out of this workshop.

 

  

22nd or 23rd March - Make your own Clock

   

A popular workshop for those determined to be creative about analogue presentation. Create something unique that expresses your individuality; go for wild and wacky or smooth and sophisticated.

A standard quartz mechanism will be central to your design.

 

  

29th or 30th March - Make your own Jewellery

Let your creativity run riot over necklaces, pendants,rings or earings. Will suit those who are willing to indulge their design skills and exercise their tenacity in bringing out the beauty of the grain.

Make one or more stylish pieces depending on ability and time available.

 

  

5th or 6th April - Make your own Rustic stool or garden bench

Produce your own garden stool or bench to take home. We will start with a brief outline of the process where your initial design will be formulated. You will then be guided in the safe use of a traditional wood working tool set and the process of construction. 

This is a 'must do' workshop for all experiential learners; minimal academic study, maximum 'hands-on'. Note no power driven tools will be used. 

 

12th or 13th April - make your own Rustic Sculpture (family ticket)

These workshop sessions are intended as a means of sharing the love of making between child and adult; so whether you are mum and daughter, farther and son, uncle and niece or any other family combination, come and share time together in the act of making.

These workshops are intended for the slightly more aristic of us who can create a lovable animals from logs. No glue, nails or stain will be used in construction. No prior knowledge or experience is required.

Make something that will adorn your garden and will be a shared point of pride for years to come.
