In the days leading up to Waitangi Day, consider the value of building your own wharenui. The meeting house where you get to discuss the founding principles of the nation. Stimulate their imagination, allow them to role play the ideals of the day.
Constructing any house is a joy, one that allows us to express ideas of community and connection and is a safe place for telling stories.
Decorate these simple structures with markings and colour that stand as symbols for your whānau.
This holiday program is for those who love to make things. It’s for children who like using real tools, appreciate sawdust and enjoy getting just a little bit dirty. Choose one or more workshops from the schedule.
All workshops start at 9:30am and finish at 2:30pm; bring your own lunch and morning tea
These workshops are for primary and intermediate-aged children. Numbers are limited to ensure quality contact time and safety.

Spending time in a workshop is always of benefit, whatever age you are. For children, these workshops are a chance to handle real tools and equipment, learn to do so safely and come away with a tangible product to be proud of. For those who already have a passion for making things, each of these days will be an opportunity to master new techniques and machinery with expert guidance. Come alone or with a friend and be assured that you will leave with a new view of your own abilities.
